Saturday on the Field

International Family Day

A day for all on the field, as the competitions hot up in the Pavilion – so wives, husbands and families of the Male, Female and Barbershop singers can be supporters in the Pavilion and join in with the fun outside too!  Today’s on the field activity also includes the Young Story Tellers of Wales competition from 2pm.  Welsh band Calan stay with us from Friday to entertain all ages, and today sees a welcome return to Llangollen of that off the wall Tex-Mex duo Bayou Seco who entertained us so well some year ago.  Another, more local duo, Midnight Hustle, will also entertain.  Award-winning Indian Classical and Bollywood dance specialist Kajal Sharma will lead dance workshops, and there are all sorts of activities for children, including interactive performances by Poppets Theatre Company.  For lovers of wildlife, the local ‘Owl Rescue’ will be on the field with beautiful birds of prey.

BAYOU SECO (USA)

‘A complete feeling of being at home with the music and having a ball.’ Ian Anderson  fRoots

Bayou Seco delighted audiences and competitors alike in 2008 with their inimitable blend of music and humour. Bayou Seco celebrate the music and dance traditions of the American Southwest by delving into the rich stew of traditional music that’s been simmering for centuries. Cajun and Zydeco, Norteno (Tex-Mex), Chicken Scratch, New Mexican colonial dance tunes and cowboy songs are served heavily spiced with the hot chilli spirit of the territory.  Their repertoire, collected over the last 30 years on their travels across the southern states, is interspersed with fascinating stories about the people from whom they learned it.
